DMA Companies and residents and staff of The Ladybird welcomed US Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington on Wednesday, May 24th where she was able to tour the community and have some time for a small question/answer session with those present. Senator Cantwell has been an active participant in her efforts to combat the housing affordability crisis that so much of our nation is experiencing. She was in Austin on a fundraising tour for her campaign which has taken her all over the United States. With help from colleagues in the Senate, she recently reintroduced the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act which would support the financing of more affordable housing by expanding and strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit), our country’s most successful affordable housing program. The Ladybird and all other communities in DMA Companies’ portfolio participate in this program to bring quality, affordable housing across Texas as well as to Georgia and Washington, DC. We were thrilled to have her take time out of her rigorous schedule to observe the efforts that Diana McIver and DMA Companies make for this much needed and honorable cause. Senator Cantwell states, “Too many families are paying too much just to keep a roof over their heads. Securing more affordable housing is key to our economic growth and individual families’ success. “This legislation would increase the federal resources allocated to each state, cut the red tape that hinders financing for workforce housing and better serve people most in need.”
